I appreciate that.

I received your letter in the mail yesterday, and I will be reading those articles over this next week.

I'll catch you around the digital ether!

Warmly,
KaneKane Augustushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06365182037573315451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9189981194016418049.post-79453394811653409482010-11-21T23:19:21.839-06:002010-11-21T23:19:21.839-06:00Hi Kane,
Apologies for taking so long to respond ...Hi Kane,

Apologies for taking so long to respond to your last comment. Carla and I just got back from Atlanta tonight, after 5 wonderful days hanging out with good friends plus taking in various presentations at the annual Evangelical Philosophical Society meeting and EPS Apologetics Conference. We also had some sight seeing in Atlanta, which included an excellent tour of the Martin Luther King Jr. museum, MLK’s home, and his neighbourhood. Carla and I were deeply impressed with Atlanta.

Thanks for your invitation to have a formal debate with you on my website, but I decline. I’m quite busy with teaching, writing, and research, and to do well at my work, I’ve got to maintain my focus. (I especially need to guard my time for reading and thinking.)

Of course, if you think that what I write in my column isn’t right, please feel free to engage my arguments. We can still continue to have our “mini-debates.”

Best regards to you and yours,
HendrikHendrik van der Breggenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04149481975577863835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9189981194016418049.post-37812796480667961792010-11-18T13:28:10.514-06:002010-11-18T13:28:10.514-06:00Dr. V.,

I would consider debating you, given a topic appropriate to both our interests.

Just a thought.

Cheers!Kane Augustushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06365182037573315451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9189981194016418049.post-38769704476013698872010-11-15T15:29:43.489-06:002010-11-15T15:29:43.489-06:00Oh, very good, Dr. V.! Thank you very much for that.

Yes, we have the Whitehorse Public Library where I live. Their religion/philosophy section is quite sparse, however. I think I have more material on those subjects and I don't even have 2/3 of my personal library here with me!

In any case, you are very generous for sending me material. I will read it with great pleasure. Thank you again.

Chowder!
KaneKane Augustushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06365182037573315451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9189981194016418049.post-82087237080460458432010-11-15T12:46:54.705-06:002010-11-15T12:46:54.705-06:00Hi Kane,

I hope you find these helpful.

Do you have a public library out where you are? Inter-library loans could be useful to you.

Also, I encourage you to study Craig's work. He is an important philosopher.

Best regards,
HendrikHendrik van der Breggenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04149481975577863835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9189981194016418049.post-19077260121873650012010-11-15T00:40:48.918-06:002010-11-15T00:40:48.918-06:00Dr. V.,

Rand and her work are not complete strangers to me (many years ago, I quite enjoyed Atlas Shrugged and Anthem). However, it may take a few months, if not a year or so, to do the evaluation that you request, because my "to read" pile is presently quite tall.

In the meantime, you might wish to check out the following resources:

- Jay W. Richards' article "Was Ayn Rand Right?" in Christian Research Journal.

- William Lane Craig's lecture "Can We Be Good Without God?"

Best regards,
HendrikHendrik van der Breggenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04149481975577863835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9189981194016418049.post-62147039770844342132010-11-14T17:50:28.885-06:002010-11-14T17:50:28.885-06:00Dr. V.,

For example, if you were to read The Virtue of Selfishness, by Ayn Rand and Nathaniel Brandon, would you be willing to give an evaluation of her morality from your Christian perspective?Kane Augustushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06365182037573315451noreply@blogger.com
